Leather Care Tips
Caring For Your Leather Furniture
To keep your leather furniture looking better for longer, it’s important you begin leather care and maintenance as soon as possible. How long your furniture keeps its beautiful appearance depends on the care you give it.
The following are some care tips to assist you in maintaining your leather’s good condition:
DON’T allow pets on the furniture. Their claws can scratch and damage the finish.
DON’T place furniture in direct sunlight or too close to a heat source (e.g. fireplace or heater).
DON’T use household cleaners, solvents or petroleum products, unspecified or non-recommended products and any products recommended for saddles or footwear. It is best to consult your furniture retailer or manufacturer as to what cleaner they recommend.
DON’T sit on leather with wet clothing from salt and chlorine swimming pools.
AVOID sharp objects coming in contact with the leather. These can scratch or cut the leather.
DO keep your leather as clean and supple as possible with regular use of the retailer or manufacturer’s recommended Leather Care Maintenance Kit. The build-up of perspiration and body salts are one of the biggest contributors to colour loss and breakdown in upholstery leather. Therefore it needs to be removed regularly. Clothing and food dye can also transfer into leather and needs to be removed as soon as possible.

Leather Care Products
Leather is a strong durable surface which (when treated and maintained correctly) will give many years of good service. Today’s modern tanneries apply complex coatings onto the leathers to increase their stain and wear resistance. The idea of good leather care for your furniture is to maintain these coatings for as long as possible. When allowed to build up, dust, body oils, grime, and food stains begin to breakdown the tannery coatings which accelerate the deterioration of the leather.

Regular use of the kits will effectively eliminate day-to-day grime build-up and apply a protective layer on the leather which will help to repel grime, stains and body oils.
